Householders in the Northwest will soon be able to obtain a home delivery box to allow parcels to be delivered to their residences – even if they are not at home.
An Post is completely overhauling its delivery strategy as a spike in online shopping changes its consumer habits.
New home delivery boxes will be installed by home owners and are designed to hold larger online shopping parcels – cutting out the need to collect undelivered parcels from a distribution centre.
Following a successful trial of the home delivery box scheme in Donegal earlier this year, the postal service has now tendered a contract for the provision of these boxes nationwide.
It is expected that the tender will be finished by Christmas with self-install boxes going to market in early 2015.
