Tir Chonaill bridge to open in Donegal town.

A new bridge will be opened in south Donegal this morning.

It’s the Tir Chonaill bridge, in Donegal Town, which has been replaced after about eight months’ work.

Known as the Iron Bridge, and sometimes the Green Bridge, the four-span structure over River Eske was originally built in 1895, and rebuilt in 1920.

Mark Sweeney, Donegal County Council area manager for roads and infrastructure, says the new bridge is as close as possible to what was there before.
