Leitrim under-20 gaelic footballers were beaten 2-16 to 0-13 by Galway under the lights of Ballinasloe in Wednesday evening’s opening Connacht under-20 football championship encounter.
Earlier, Roscommon and Mayo played out a 1-13 to 3-7 at Dr Hyde Park.
Holders Sligo make their championship entrance next Wednesday (May 27th) when they host Roscommon at Markievicz Park (5:30pm).
The format of the provincial U20 championship has changed this year – from a straight knockout competition to a round-robin championship.
At the end of four games each, the top-placed county will qualify directly for the Connacht final with the second and third-placed teams contesting a single semi-final.
