Connacht lose opening interpro to Leinster

The FAI Amateur interprovincial soccer tournament began on Friday evening in Sligo with wins for Leinster and Munster over hosts Connacht and Ulster respectively.

Sligo is hosting this year’s junior men’s interpros with matches taking place all weekend at Ray MacSharry Park in Cranmore and the Ballisodare astro.

In Friday evening’s game at MacSharry Park, Connacht suffered a 3-1 defeat to Leinster.

Two Sligo-Leitrim players, Brian Lynch (Calry Bohs) and Leo Doherty (Strand Celtic) both played.

Carbury’s Niall Brennan, who was named as captain of the Connacht squad pre-tournament, didn’t feature in Friday night’s game.

At the astro in Ballisodare, Munster proved too good for Ulster winning 5-1.

The action continues on Saturday afternoon with two more games.

Conancht play Munster in Ballisodare – while Leinster face Ulster at MacSharry Park.

Both games kick off at 2pm.
