Fowley & Moloney among the Ireland replacements for Welsh game

Sligo’s Nicole Fowley has again been named as replacement outhalf for this Saturday’s Women’s Six Nations match against Wales at Virgin Media Park in Cork.

Scott Bemand’s team, named on Thursday, shows Dannah O’Brien at No 10 as Ireland go in search of their first win in this season’s championship.

There is also another ‘Sligo’ connection on the bench.

Hooker Cliodhna Moloney returns to the squad after a two-and-half-year absence.

The Exeter Chiefs player is a graduate of ATU Sligo.

She hasn’t played for her country since publicly criticising former IRFU director of Women’s Rugby Anthony Eddy, accusing him of ‘spreading slurry’.

That was during the fall-out around Ireland’s failure to qualify for the last World Cup, when Eddy appeared to lay all the blame at the door of the players.

Moloney and other Ireland team-mates challenged Eddy’s analysis at the time.
