Manorhamilton centre receives glowing HIQA report

A Manorhamilton residential centre has received a glowing report from the health watchdog.

Arus Breffni Nursing Unit is a centre which provides residential care for male and female residents over the age of 18.

HIQA’s unannounced inspection took place in mid-January with the details published today.

The centre is a bungalow-style unit which provides residential care for 25 residents, with most of those aged over 65.

The residents living in Arus Breffni were found to be enjoying good levels of care and support and a good quality life where they were able to exercise choice and make key decisions about their lives.

One resident spoke with the inspector and told them that they were supported at the centre and outlined their pleasure at the amount of choice and control they have.

The inspector found that there were sufficient numbers of staff available with the required skill mix to meet the assessed needs of the residents living in the designated centre.

It was also found that there were good practices in relation to infection control at the centre.

The area of improvement identified in the inspection was related to infection prevention & control, relating to a piece of equipment.

The provider representative and the person in charge completed a review of infection control practices and cleaning of medical equipment within the designated centre and has implemented further cleaning schedules.

Melissa Kelly, Acting General Manager for Older Persons Services HSE Community Healthcare CH CDLMS said “The HSE will continue to work to ensure the delivery of high quality, person-centred services to the residents in Arus Breffni Community Hospital.”
