Sweet Yasmina got the better of Kate……………… 8/Jun 11:35

Yasmina became a worthy winner I felt last night on the BBC’s Apprentice and by doing so has won a yearly contract worth 100k from Alan Sugar. What a day and night we had on Saturday. Myself Aodh Flynn and PJ Leddy were flat out all day and most of the night at the Ramada Hotel in Drumshanbo for the Leitrim Local election count which consisted of four electoral area’s Ballinamore, Carrick On Shannon, Dromahair and Manorhamilton.

Is the Willies Mickey the man for Leitrim………………………… 4/Jun 08:40

I deceided on Sunday last to wait a few days before I wrote me blog in relation to the game between Leitrim and Roscommon.

Hear it is

Before the game I predicted that this games winner would be determined by the side with the best freetaker.

After the withdrawl of Glencar Manors James Glancy( due to injury) we were poor. I couldn’t understand how Pat Gilmartin, Paddy Mc Gowan,  or Noel Doonan weren’t used in the game and that Shane Foley came on as late as he did. We lacked physcial power throughout the game and these 4 subs are six footers and play with pride, passion and penetration. I was impressed with our goals, and  the performaces of Philly Mc Guinness, John Mc Keon and TB.Its fair to say we had some wasteful shooting especially in the first half and just like the rossies 8 wides in total. I belived this could ave been our year in connacht  until recently having learned of the injury to Emlyn Mulligan, loss of Rego, Michael and Ciaran Duignan. We will need to meet a weaker county if we are to progress in this years championship. Carlow would be nice. Alot of people I spoke to in Leitrim on Sunday and Monday claim that Leitrim have not improved under the stewardship of Mickey Moran and believe Mickey Quinn is the man to repeat O Mahonys achievement in 94 and lead Leitrim to Connacht Glory.

Angelina Joliewho is 34 today has been named the most powerful celebrity in the world, knocking former number one Oprah Winfrey down a place. The annual Forbes Celebrity 100 list sees a strong showing from women,
with Madge and Beyonce claiming the third and fourth spots. The BoldTiger filled the fifth slot – the only man in the top five.

The apprentice Final line up was finalised last night as Kate and Yasmina go head to head in the final this Sunday night 9pm on BBC1.  The last man James wil be missed jasus he was hilarious.

Big Brother returns to our screen tonite sure sign of exams.

Tune into Oceanfm this Sunday from 2pm Armagh vs Tyrone and Leitrim Vs Roscommon 29/May 13:15

Its a savage price for a ticket. For the past seven days it has been the topic of conversation on the lips of the GA heads I have spoken to. 30 euro to see Leitrim take on Roscommon  I had been hoping that living on the border there would be some good old jiben goin on. Comparisons have been made however lets see what crowd Sunday brings. Im off to see Beyonce in the O2 this evening and looking forward to it. Gerry Mc Manus tells me that there is a  Leitrim supporters bus goin from Manorhamilton at 1 pm  on Sunday to Carrick On Shannon. Roscommon supporters are also welcome.

Poor Old Hickey 25/May 16:18

The Boys from Lenister have long been described as the sweet boys of Irish Rugby. The sweetness was far from sweet on Saturday. BOD with a fine drop goal, Sexton showing signs he may be the man to challenge ROG for the Irish number 10 and Jackman straightend up his lineout throw.

After the game on Saturday I felt shockin sorry for the Dennis Hickey. Jasus he’s only gone into retirement and Lenister win their first Heino Cup. Sure I suppose the same happened Keith Wood a few years ago……………………

Back Behind The Championship Mic This Weekend 25/May 16:10

This Sunday, Pairc Sean Carrick On Shannon is the venue for the meeting of neighbours Leitrim and Roscommon in the Connacht Senior Football Championship 2009. Its a special tie for those of us who live on the border and went to school with sound skins from Arigna, Ballyfarnon, Drumboylan, Crossna, Cootehall, Keadue and Mount Allen. Victory when I was going to school in senior football over the Ros was a big as winning connacht.  Nowadays it’s probably stilll the same. The Ros are under the stewardship of Fergie O Donnell, manger of The Ros Minor ALL Ireland winning team from a few years back. Leitrim in 09 under the guidance of Mickey Moran struggled in Division 4 against Sligo, Antrim and Waterford.  Emlyn Mulligan is a big loss up front, Rego has retired and the pair of Duignan’s are no longer on the panel.

How times have Changed

Ros supporters say they are no great shakes this year, while Leitrim supporters are claiming they are not expecting to come away with the win on Sunday??

God be with the days when I was in DVS and no matter how bad your side was playing or how many injuries they had Your county was going to beat the neighbours…….. Come on the boys…. A bit of heart……..

Jim Never Fixed It For Me. What About You? 19/May 15:14

So the legend that is Jimmy Saville has fixed it for himself to have his armchair from the show ‘Jim’ll fix it’ back. What a show it was back in the eighties, Jasus Jim was me hero. I remember at the time hoping that he would read me letter which I had sent him at the time, beggin Jim to arrange for me to tog out in Croke Park at corner forward on the great Kerry team of the eighties. Imagine myself Blessing the Bomber Spillane what a full Forward line Micko would ave had then. It wasn’t until I was a teenager my mother told me that she never posted the letter I had wrote to Jimmy. She pnly said she had to keep me quiet.

What was the story with all the Hares I met on my to work this morning? Jasus they were every where it was begining to remind me of the rabbit attack in Father Ted. I didn’t hit any, thank god.

What a night at the Bridge 15/Apr 10:39

I missed the first half of the Chelsea game last night as we had a briefing at the SAS hotel for the Sligo Rose of Tralee which takes place on the 26th of April in aid of SHOUT. However I did get to see the secondhalf and what a half. I must say I am disappointed with the way Rafa keeps trying to convince the Anfield faithful that Lucas is a good player from what I saw of him last night he was poor. Lampard took the ball of him inside the reds half and his misplaced pass led to the throw in for lampards clincher.

Today is the 20th anniversary of The Hillsborough Disaster, I remember watching it live on TV that day when 96 supporters lost their lives.  I was inundated with requests from supporters of all teams asking me to play the red army Anthem so we did this morning in memory of the victims and their families.

St Patricks Reach All Ireland Final. 14/Apr 11:47

It’s not often we get to All Ireland football finals in Leitrim and usually when we do we  rely on our Ladies team. On Saturday afternoon the men from St Patricks Dromahair under the guidance of Catherine Lynch a Mohill native and Mickey Quinn our first ever winner of an all star pulled off a fantastic victory over Rockwell from the premier county.  On Monday and Tuesday of this week on the Breakfast club I had been singing the praises of the side ( as you would expect) when an interesting suggestion was made by more than one listener via text. Give Catherine a chance at the Leitrim job……… I will leave the rest up to ur own imagination

I think it’s early days yet on the county scene with Mickey eile(Moran) lets see after May 31st.

Tonight I’m heading to the very posh Raddisson SAS hotel in Rosses Point to meet with this years roses, for the Sligo Rose comp 09. This years charity is SHOUT, Sligo Hospital Oncology Unit Trust which provides comfort for those receiving chemo. I sat infront of my uncle Sean last year while on his death bed in the Oncology ward of Sligo general hospital and this experience showed me the importance of our oncology services here in the northwest. So for me fingers x that we make a ball of money for this worthy charity on Sunday 26th of April. Chat soon Kevin B

Not a Hope in Hell 25/Mar 13:53

Bernard Dunne to tackle Wayne Mc as reported by me on this mornings show. Well I don’t think that fight will happen. The new champ seems to be more in favour of takin on an old sparing partner in Las Vegas for big bucks.

FTI There is a free poster of Bernard in Tmrws Star newspaper.

The draw was made for the forthcoming club championships in The Bush on Monday night Allen Gaels are in the group of death yet asgain this year alongside Melvin Gaels League champs and last years winners Glencar Manor. It will be interesting to see what clubs can hold onto their players with the economic downturn we have at the minute. I predict St Marys to win the championship this year with Denis Johnston now at the helm maybe he can  get them playing as a unit and not individuals which seems to be always the case, Marys for me  is the largest club and has the biggest pick  in the county and on paper have reallly under achieved in the last decade or so.

What A difference A Great Sporting Day Can Make 23/Mar 16:38

Well Well Well, What a savage weekend to be a Paddy. First off we won the Rugby, secondly Bernard Dunne picked himself up off the canvas not once but twice to go on and Become Super Bantamweight World Champion. I still can’t believe his comeback and when asked after the fight if he was as good as Mc Guigan, I had to say no.  For me the Rugby was a great day. I watched the game in Morans of Ballintogher in Sligo and for the life of me can’t understand why Gavin Henson didn’t take that penalty which Jones missed at the death. Henson is very accurate from midfield one its infront of the Posts. Fair play to Donnacha O Callaghan who let Jones know he wasn’t going to get away with targeting Rog early on. I’d say there was some craic with the boys in Coppers last night.

My own Leitrim side were defeated in Waterford at the weekend. I think this ends our interest in promotion as we now would hope other sides could do us favours in order for us to gain promotion.

Jade Goody passed away on Sunday morning+ May She Rest In Peace+ I liked her on the Telly prior to her appearance on Celebrity Big Brother. I don’t think she won any fans after ganging up on Shelpa in that series. How and ever when she came out of the house she did try and make up for what she had said and done. Her Illness highlighted Cervical Cancer and brought it to the fore and as a result has made people more aware of this form of Cancer.

St Patricks Dromahair made their debut on the box last night thanks to Catherine Lynch and Celebrity Bannisteoir. I hope the Mc Gowan lads and Trout can win this championship. I remember a few years ago commentating on a Connacht Intermediate Champonship match in Elphin against Boyle and the lads from Dromahaire got tanked that day. That won’t happen in this competition that’s for sure. Go on the lads the Northwest is behind yee.
