Drumcliffe/Rosses Point GAA Club Notes

Club Meeting – August
T
he club’s monthly meeting for August takes place this Monday night (Aug 28th) in Oxfield at 9pm.
Shield Succes for U12s
It was a week to remember for two of our U12 football teams. The boys Division 1 side lifted the shield title in style on Friday evening at Scarden with a 0-18 to 0-9 win over Ballymote/Bunninadden in the final. It was a terrific team display, particularly in the closing quarter, which secured the win. Congrats to all the players and management members involved. Players: Brian Gilmartin, Donnchadh O’Brien, Fionn McNulty, Dylan McGee, Joe Campbell, Rían O’Callaghan, Conor Gillen, Patrick Phelan (Capt), Matthew Percy, Sean Fehrmann, Mark McDermott, Diarmuid Dunleavy, Michael Carroll, Jake Chambers, Sean McCabe, Darragh O’Flaherty. Management team: Rowan O’Callaghan, Declan Carroll, Des McGee, Declan O’Brien and Paul McDonagh.
Girls U12 footballers
The U12 girls are through to the ‘A’ championship final after a comprehensive win over Tourlestrane at Oxfield the same evening. CT Gaels will be our opponents in the county final which is scheduled for September 9th. Again, this was another impressive team performance. Our thanks to Jimmy Smith and Des Henry for their help and assistance last Friday. We wish the team, which is managed by Trevor Ferguson and Frank Moylan, every success in next month’s decider.
Junior footballers
Our junior footballers shrugged off any ‘effects’ of last Saturday’s Warriors Run and subsequent late night/early morning ‘Mayweather-McGregor’ TV viewing to record an emphatic 3-15 to 1-8 success over Coolera/Strandhill in the championship on Sunday at Oxfield. Eoin Gaughan scored 1-12 of the DRP total and the win ensures that we top Group 2 and qualify for the county semi-finals.
Club players on county duty
Good luck to Rachel Monaghan, Michelle McNamara, Sinéad Regan, Aisling Ewing and the Sligo ladies team who play Tyrone this Saturday afternoon in the All-Ireland intermediate semi-final at Kingspan Breffni Park. Throw-in is at 3pm and the match is live on TG4.
Intermediate Ladies Co Final Date
A reminder too that our ladies intermediate team play St Mary’s in the 2017 Connacht Gold Intermediate Championship final on Saturday, September 16th in Markievicz Park at 2pm. Save the date as we want as much club support as possible for the girls that day.
U14 girls footballers
The girls U14 footballers play St Mary’s at Oxfield in the championship this Monday evening at 7pm.
U12 Boys
Our boys U12 division 3 team play St Mary’s at Markievicz Park on Tuesday evening at 7pm in a cup play-off at 7:15pm. Oxfield holds a girls U10 football blitz the same evening, starting at 7pm. Players are asked to assemble by 6:45pm
U16 girls footballers
The girls U16 footballers host Calry-St Joseph’s at Oxfield in the championship this Thursday evening at 6:30pm. We need to win this match to keep our play-off hopes alive.
Boys minor footballers begin championship
Our boys minor footballers have amalgamated with Calry/St Joseph’s for the championship this year. The team plays its opening championship match on Monday, Sept 4th against Curry (away) at 7 o’clock.
