All four candidates have been elected for Ballymote. They are as follows:

Gerry Mullaney, FG,

Martin Baker, FF

Thomas Collery, FG

Pat Mc Grath, FG

The quota was 1,181

Thomas Healy, SF has been eliminated in the Ballymote recount.

The battle to join Martin Baker, FF and Gerry Mulaney FG, for the last two seats in Ballymote will be between Pat McGrath, FG, Thomas Collery, FG and Mattie Scanlon, FF.

Thomas Healy’s votes are now being distrubted.

The quota was 1,284.

4 Councillors have been elected as of 12noon.

The results are as follows:

Michael Clarke, Ind was elected on first count.

Joe Queenan, FF was elected on fourth count.

Mary Barrett, FG was elected on fifth count.

Dara Mulvey, FG was also elected on fifth count.

Paul Conmy, FG loses seat.

A Dunkineely man has been elected to Dublin City Council.

Michael Conaghan, the former Labour Lord Mayor of Dublin, topped the poll in Ballyfermot/Drimnagh area.

Sorting of candidates’ votes is continuing here in Donegal Town.

A lot of interest was expressed in the sorting of FG’s Barry McShane’s votes -with speculation here his transfers are being split three ways – between John Boyle, (FG), Thomas Pringle (IND) and Brendan Byrne (FF).

There’s also speculation that the 7 candidates dotted around the Donegal Town area could enough votes to exceed the quota by double – but not enough to see any of them elected individually.

Again, still at the very early stages here. Sorting continues.

Elsewhere, the Tánaiste has since headed off from Donegal Town bound for the European Election Count at the Royal Theatre, Castlebar.

The Tánaiste has arrived at the St John Bosco Centre.

Speaking to Ocean FM, Mary Coughlan reflected on the national trends and voiced her disappointment.

“We knew we would be unpopular on the basis of our decisions. People did say they wanted the medicine but when they got the medicine they didn’t like it” she said.

The Tánaiste also ruled out any speculation of an early General Election.

Commenting on the Donegal Electoral area, the Tánaiste said she would be concerned that Jonathan’s Kennedy could stand to lose a seat although she did note the positive tallies for Cllr Sean Mc Eniff.

She also said she believed that public anger at decisions made by Fianna Fail at national level has been directed towards local representatives.

The Tánaiste said she was remaining hopeful that two FF seats can be retained in the Donegal Electoral Area.

Votes for Barry O’Neill (FG), Sean McEniff (FF), Brendan Byrne (FF) and Thomas Pringle (IND) are currently being sifted through.

Things are getting busier here in the St John Bosco Centre with the sorting of Barry O’Neill’s (FG) votes now underway.

It’s estimated at this very early stage that the quota could stand at around 2,416.

It’s also been estimated there has been a 65 per cent turn-out of the 22,706 electorate.

Candidates are continuing to arrive.

Results of the first count are not expected until approximately 2pm.
