Donegal weather Armagh storm to win in Ballybofey

Donegal senior men’s gaelic footballers got their national football league division 2 campaign back on track on Saturday night with a one-point win against Armagh at McCumhaill Park, on a final scoreline of 1-9 to 11 points.

The first-half was eventful – and niggly – with two players seeing red cards in the opening half. Armagh’s James Morgan and Donegal’s Jason McGee both got the line.

In atrocious weather conditions, Michael Murphy marked his return to competitive action in 2019 with a well-taken first-half goal to help Donegal establish a 1-4 to 0-6 interval lead. The strong wind caused to goalposts and the television cameras to sway throughout the game.

Armagh manager Kieran McGeeney watched the match from the press area as he serves a sideline ban.

Murphy was again influential in the second-half and he contributed a couple of fine points. Armagh were never far away however and kept pushing right to the end. The Orchard men cut Donegal’s second-half lead to a single point in the dying moments but Declan Bonner’s side held on to win by one.

Donegal manager Declan Bonner spoke to Charlie Collins after the game:

Donegal move onto six points in Division 2 and are still in the hunt for promotion.

They will travel to Páirc Uí Rinn on Saturday March 16th to play Cork before completing their league campaign with a home match against Kildare in Ballyshannon on March 24th.
