Tanaiste hits back at McGuinness’ criticisms

Tánaiste Mary Coughlan is hitting back over scathing comments made by sacked Junior Minister John McGuinness. 

The former Junior Minister criticised the Taoiseach and the Tanaiste’s ability to run the country on RTE’s Late Late Show last night.

The Kilkenny TD says there is a lot of discontent among Fianna Fail backbenchers and a disconnect between the parliamentary party and the leadership.

Mary Coughlan says she feels obliged to clarify the record following remarks from Deputy McGuinness on her ability to function in her role as Minister for Enterprise.

The Tánaiste says she understands that he may be feeling upset having lost his position and that certain things can be said in the heat of the moment.

Social and Family Affairs Minister Mary Hanafin is echoing the Tanaiste’s sentiments.
