Breast-check roll-out off radar for ‘forseeable’ future

Another dark day for health care in Donegal.

The words of Donegal Action for Cancer Care’s Betty Holmes as it emerged today that the roll-out of breast-check for the county has been delayed once again

DACC met with Breast Check CEO Tony O’Brien yesterday who told the group that due to financial constraints, the service will not be available for the women of Donegal.

It had been hoped that the roll-out would get underway before the end of 2009.

Mr O’Brien added that due to the Government-imposed recruitment freeze within the HSE the breast check team had no option but to forgo the roll out for the foreseeable future.

Ms Holmes says despite being promised the service, once again the women of Donegal are being left to suffer.
