Devins outraged at Cancer transfer
Sligo Fianna Fail TD, Jimmy Devins has said that he is in discussions with the Taoiseach to try and change the decision to move breast cancer services from Sligo General to Galway.
Staff at Sligo General Hospital and GP’s were informed in a letter from Head of the National Cancer Control strategy, Proffessor Tom Keane, that no new symtomatic breast cancer referrals will be accepted at Sligo General Hospital from the 6th of August next.
Deputy Devins has expressed his outrage at Proffessor Keanes announcement and added that the relocation of services must be stopped immediately.
He branded it as the wrong move medically, financially and socially.
Deputy Devins said he will put all his energies into convincing the Taoiseach to rescind the decision.
