Campaigners to stage ‘Big bra’ protest

The people of the North West are being urged to lend their ’support’ to what’s been described as the ‘big bra’ protest in Dublin next week.

Cancer campaigners will descend on Dublin on Tuesday to display their defiance to the looming transfer of breast cancer-care services.

Buses will set off from Sligo, Donegal and Leitrim next week with protestors first traveling to Aras an Uachtarain to hand in a letter to President Mary McAleese.

Campaigners will then go to the Department of Health to hand in a letter to Minister Mary Harney, before then heading to the Taoiseach’s office.

In a symbolic move, protestors are being urged to tie their bras to the railings outside Brian Cowen’s office.

It’s a last ditch attempt for Save Our Cancer Services Sligo to avert the transfer of services to University College Hospital Galway.

August 6th will be the end of symptomatic breast referrals to Sligo General.

A book of protest is also being opened at Sligo’s City Hall at 11.30am this morning.

Times and locations of bus services to Tuesday’s protest are as follows:

7am – leave Donegal Town – the Diamond

8am – leave Sligo – Sligo Retail Park (McDonalds)

8.15am – Collooney roundabout

9.am – The Landmark Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon
