EU makes recommendation on Culdaff road death
The European Commission has recommended that the family of a Donegal woman who died in a road incident in 2001 be invited to address both the Seanad and Dail Transport Committees.
It was one of the recommendations made by the Commission after they heard evidence from the Farren family from Carndonagh yesterday.
22 year old Sinead McDaid died after her vehicle went out of control on a straight stretch of road near Culdaff in June 2001.
Donegal County Council had been carrying out resurfacing works on the road at the time.
The EU’s Committee on Petitions was asked in June of this year to embark on an investigation into the maintenance of non-national roads in Ireland by local authorities.
The Gallagher family from Mayo also spoke yesterday.
North West MEP Jim Higgins who organised the meeting said he feels the families received a positive result.
