National athletics awards this Saturday
After another encouraging performance in Spain last weekend, Sligo’s Mary Cullen will be up for two awards at this weekend’s National Athletics Awards in Dublin.
The Drumcliffe runner has been nominated for both the Track Athlete of the Year and the Cross-Country/Road Athlete of the Year accolades.
Cullen, who was the second placed European when finishing fourth in Spain last weekend, is up against David Gillick, Derval O’Rourke and Paul Hession for the track award; while Andrew Ledwith, Martin Fagan and Letterkenny-based Maria McCambridge are her fellow nominees for the Cross-Country award.
Leitrim’s Colin Griffin is one of the nominees for the Race Walker award, along with Jamie Costin, Robert Heffernan and world champion silver-medalist Olive Loughnane.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Saturday evening.
