ALDI appeals Donegal Town decision
German discount store ALDI are appealing a decision by Donegal County Council refusing planning permission for a store in Donegal Town.
There was major disappointment in the town last month after it emerged planning for the store at a retail park at the Mullins and Drumcliffe had been declined.
Donegal County Council turned ALDI’s application down on the basis of the store’s location and its distance from the “retail core” of Donegal Town.
The German firm wants to open the store at the retail park, which was originally granted planning permission by the council in 2008.
An objection was later overruled by An Bord Plenala and the development was given the green-light in December of that year.
ALDI lodged an appeal with An Bord Plenala on November 6th.
A decision is expected early next year.
