Taoiseach says ”no soft options” in Budget
The Taoiseach warned there are no “soft options” in tackling the multi-billion euro deficit in the public finances.
In his key-note address to Ogra Fianna Fáil delegates in Bundoran on Saturday, Brian Cowen said for every 30euro of income, over 50 euro is being spent and that has to be corrected.
The country is bracing itself for what is expected to be one of the toughest budgets the State has ever seen on December 9th which will aim to make savings to the tune of 4 billion euro.
The Taoiseach says the Government has to act now, and while cutbacks may be difficult, they are necessary.
