Maire Geoghegan-Quinn excellent choice:Harkin

North West MEP Marian Harkin has welcomed the nomination of former Justice Minister Maire Geoghegan-Quinn for the appointment of Ireland’s next EU Commissioner.

It was confirmed yesterday that the Cabinet had approved the nomination.

Ms Geoghegan-Quinn, who is currently a member of the European Court of Auditors, is the first Irish woman to be nominated to the European commission.

Ms Harkin says she feels it’s an excellent choice.
