Mayor accused of siding with council over constituents

A Fine Gael County Councillor has accused the Mayor of Donegal of not making time to hear a motion on car parking charges at yesterday’s monthly council meeting.

Cllr Barry O’Neill was calling for charges to be suspended in Ballyshannon, Donegal Town and Killybegs from the 4th to the 25th of December in a bid to help out local retailers in the run-up to Christmas.

It was the 15th motion on yesterday’s agenda.

During the course of the six-hour meeting, Cllr O’Neill said he pointed out on a number of occasions to Mayor Brendan Byrne that his motion was time-specific and needed to be raised that day.

However, it wasn’t heard and Cllr O’Neill is now accusing Mayor Byrne of siding with council officals instead of his own constituents.
