Doherty welcomes DUP support for devolution deal
The future of the North’s power-sharing executive appears to be secure after the DUP unanimously backed a deal on devolution of policing and justice.
The agreement was announced late last night following a meeting of their MLA’s.
Full details of the deal are expected to be announced by the Taoiseach and Prime Minister at Hillsborough Castle later.
The breakthrough comes in the wake of round-the-clock talks which have lasted almost two weeks.
Donegal Sinn Féin Senator Pearse Doherty has arrived at Hillsborough Castle this morning.
He said the party has shown “tremendous patience” throughout the talks and are relieved to have an ultimately positive response.
Senator Doherty added that the deal will also bring benefits to Donegal and future cross-border co-operation.
