Grants to be paid to students next week

Students in Sligo should receive the second instalment of the third level grant next week.

Fianna Fail Deputy Eamon Scanlon said the monies from the Department of Education will be paid to local authorities next Monday.

There have been huge delays in grant payments in Sligo because the County Council refused to pay students until they receive the money from the Department.

Usually local authorities pay students the grant and are then reimbursed at a later stage but this was not possible this year due to the current economic climate.

Deputy Scanlon welcomed the news.
