Labour by-election candidate to be confirmed
Labour Donegal County Councillor Frank McBrearty is expected to be confirmed as the party’s candidate for the Donegal South West by-election tonight.
The Labour selection convention for the still as of yet dateless by-election is being held in Ballybofey at eight o’clock.
Cllr McBrearty is the only candidate nominated.
The meeting will be chaired by Labour MEP for Munster, Alan Kelly.
Cllr McBrearty is the latest in a number of candidates to confirm their election intentions.
The vacancy in the three-seater constituency was left following the election of Pat The Cope Gallagher as an MEP last year.
It is up to the Government to determine a date for the by-election, although speculation has indicated it could go ahead sometime in early summer.
