Live Register figures top 21,000
There are now over 21,000 people on the Live Register in Donegal.
The stark number was revealed in figures released today by the Central Statistics Office.
They show that an additional 725 people joined the county’s dole queues in the four weeks between December and January, marking a 28 per cent increase on the figures for January 2009.
In Ballyshannon, 125 more people signed on, bringing the total there now to 1,532.
There was an increase of 104 in Donegal Town – with 1,501 on the Live Register there.
Dungloe now has 2,256 people signing on, an increase of 113 with 1,253 in Killybegs an increase of 48.
Nationallly, around 13,000 extra people joined the dole queuesin January with the total figure now standing at 434,700.
