‘Black day’ for farming as Cranmore offices close
The President of the Irish Cattle and Sheepfarmers Association has said the relocation of the Department of Agriculture Offices from Sligo today is a “black day for farming”.
Gabriel Gilmartin’s comments come as the offices in Cranmore shut their doors today with operations being transferred to Drumshanbo in Co. Leitrim.
The services have been in Sligo for the past 40 years and the move has provoked anger amongst the agricultural community.
Mr Gilmartin said the move means Sligo will now be the only county in Connacht without its own agricultural offices.
