Meteorite in the hills of Donegal?
It’s emerged that Donegal could have been the most likely landing place for a meteorite spotted in skies across the North West last week.
Many people across the region reported seeing a bright light blazing across the sky shortly before six o’clock last Wednesday evening.
Speculation that the meteorite had landed in Cavan sparked a searching frenzy, but it’s now emerged that Donegal could be poised to become the next location for amateur astronomists to descend upon.
Experts at Astronomy Ireland are preparing to make an announcement on where they believe the meteorite may have landed at a public lecture at Trinity College this evening.
People in the county are still being asked to come forward with their eye-witness reports and to keep on the look-out for fragments of the fallen meteorite.
David Moore from Astronomy Ireland said they will be hoping to reveal the specifics tonight.
