Cllr sceptical over new Sligo General facility

A Leitrim County Councillor has expressed his doubts over a planned new 96-bed facility for Sligo General Hospital.

Sinn Fein Councillor Michael Colreavy said that with the existing hospital being downgraded and beds being closed, he would be sceptical over the new project ever happening.

Sligo North Leitrim Fianna Fail TDs Eamon Scanlon and Jimmy Devins announced after December’s budget that a new 50 million euro public facility would be built in the grounds of Sligo General.

The nine-storey building is mooted to have new intensive care, paediatric and radiology units.

Cllr Colreavy said he believes the plans will not come to fruition.
