Eugene Lambert to be laid to rest

Renowned puppeteer Eugene Lambert will be laid to rest later this morning.

Around 200 people gathered at St Patrick’s Church in Monkstown, Co. Dublin last night where the Sligo native’s remains were brought from his nearby home.

Born in Sligo’s Bayview Terrace, Mr. Lambert later moved to Dublin with his wife Mai.

He and his family were behind the much-loved RTE creation ‘Wanderly Wagon’ and went on to found the Lambert Puppet Workshop.

The 81-year passed away at his home in Dublin earlier this week.

At last night’s removal, Fr Michael McGoldrick described Mr Lambert as a “wonderful, gifted entertainer who had brought joy to generations of Irish children”.

Eugene Lambert’s funeral will take place in Dublin this morning following 10 o’clock Requiem Mass.
