Environmentalists critical of protected habitat care
An environmental group has criticised the National Parks and Wildlife Service for not performing its statutory duty regarding a protected habitat in North Leitrim.
Friends of the Irish Environment have hit out at the state agency following a high court order against Leitrim County Council over an unauthorised road near Lough Allen.
The action was taken by the Cavan, Leitrim Environmental Awareness Network (CLEAN) and means the proposal to put a road through a protected area will not go ahead.
Welcoming the decision, Tony Lowes from FIE said the group would not have had to take court action if the National Parks and Wildlife Service had done their job properly.
