Fire Service confirm accelerant caused headshop fire

Sligo Fire Service have confirmed a fire at Yutopia headshop on Connelly street was caused by an accelerant thrown through a broken window at the front of the shop.

Two men aged 21 and 31 have been arrested in connection with the fire which broke out shortly after midnight last night.

Sligo Fire Service has confirmed the shop sustained extensive smoke and heat damage and the frront of the premises also was damaged.

The apartments next to and above the shop on Connelly Street were evacuated as the smoke spread and activated the fire alarms.

No one was injured during the incident and firefighters continued to tackle the blaze untill 2 o clock this morning.

Two men have since been arrested and are being held at Sligo Garda station.

They are being detained under Section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act 1984 and can be held for up to 24 hours.

The scene has ben cordoned off and a forensic technical examination will take place shortly.
