Sligo visit impresses royal couple enough to want to return to the north west



The Prince of Wales says that the west and north west made such an impression on him last year that he and his wife had to return.

Prince Charles made the comments in a short speech he made at Letterkenny Institute this evening at the end of his trip to Donegal.

He and his wife Camilla Parker-Bowles returned to the north west for the second time in just over a year having been here once before in the 90s.

Last year he made a historic visit to Sligo and Mullaghmore where his great uncle Lord Mountbatten was killed by an IRA bomb in 1979.

Today he returned to the north west making a trip to Donegal town where he visited the Castle, did a meet and greet in the Diamond before meeting local business owners.

In his speech this evening the Prince said his trip to Sligo and Galway last year made a lasting impression and he commended the county of Donegal:
