Donegal County Council has moved to clarifty the current position regarding payment of the Household Charge in the county.
The Director of Service for Finance within the Council, Mr. Garry Martin, says close to 31,000 people have paid the charge in Co. Donegal since its inception earlier this year.
He has acknowledged those who have paid the charge to date and is reminding those that still have to pay that it is the stated intention of the Government that the payment of the charge must be pursued against those who have not yet paid it.
A recent exercise in all counties have seen reminders issued to a sample selection of those who have not yet paid and there will be an escalation of action against those who remain unpaid over the coming months.
The council says options will remain for the collection of the charge includes the pursuance of the charge through the courts and the possibility of it becoming a first charge on any upcoming property tax.
