The monthly senior club meeting takes place on Thursday 28th June in Aras Aoidh Ruaidh at 8.30pm. All committee members are asked to attend.

~ SUMMER CAMP ~

The 21st annual Aodh Ruadh Summer Camp, sponsored by McDevitt and McGlynn Certified Accountants and Registered Auditors, commences on Monday, 2nd July and continues until Friday, 20th July. There's loads to do with football, hurling, swimming, rounders, obstacle courses and plenty of other fun and games. You can check out some of the pictures from last year's camp on aodhruadh.org. Each week of the camp concludes with a sports day on Friday. The camp runs from 10am to 3pm and is open to all children from six to 14 years-of-age. This year prices remain unchanged for the eighth year in a row and represent excellent value. The cost per week is €70 per child. Family concessions are as follows: €130 for two children; €180 for three children; and €200 for four children. Children should bring a packed lunch as no one will be allowed to leave the camp during the day. Applications have been distributed to local schools, but forms can also be downloaded from aodhruadh.org. These should be returned to Sylvester Maguire at The Mullans Ballyshannon or brought to camp on the first Monday of the week. Enquiries to 071-9858277 or 086-0532495 or check out www.aodhruadh.org or "Aodh Ruadh CLG" on www.facebook.com.

~ FOOTBALL ~

Termon showed why they are top of the table with the 2-11 to 1-6 dispatch of Aodh Ruadh. Things started badly for Ballyshannon as the homesters struck with an early and finished out the second half leading by 1-6 to 0-2. Termon repeated the dose in the second half, but Aodh Ruadh responded slightly better, with a late goal from a high ball into the area putting a bit of a gloss on the score line for the Ernesiders. One to forget for Aodh Ruadh, but Anthony Boyle does deserve a special mention for an outstanding and defiant performance. Thanks to Cathal Maguire we have pictures from the game up on aodhruadh.org.

The Reserves fought out a tough 0-9 apiece draw with their Termon counterparts. Aodh Ruadh played into the wind in the first half. A point from Ryan Granaghan a free from Dermot Slevin and two points from Johnny Gethins saw Aodh Ruadh going in at the break still in contact with the homesters at 0-7 to 0-4. Playing with the wind along with the introduction of Eamon McGrath, Niall Murray and Jamie McDonald helped revive the Ernesiders fortunes considerably. McDonald, Johnny Gethins, Ryan Granaghan and Dermot Slevin all got on the score sheet to see Aodh Ruadh going into the closing stages with a one point lead. However a late free saw Termon emerge with a share of the spoils. The match represents a good test with championship looming. Michael Lawless did a fine covering job in defence while Alan Finan's breaks from the back added another dynamic. Once again the returning Aidan Murray had a barn-storming game in midfield.

Next Sunday sees Aodh Ruadh play host to Downings in Father Tierney Park. The reserves throw in at 1.30pm with Lee Jordan refereeing, the seniors follow at 3pm with Michael McShane down to take charge of that one.

The minors are at home to Saint Naul’s in Páirc Aoidh Ruadh on Wednesday 27th June with Pat Walsh refereeing. Throw in is at 7.30pm. This is the concluding match of the round robin league and a draw or win will secure Aodh Ruadh’s place in the knock out stages.

Aodh Ruadh delivered a comprehensive performance to run out 5-10 to 1-7 winners against Naomh Mhuire in the Southern Regional Championship semi-final. Ballyshannon lead by 3-5 to 0-2 at half time and many of Naomh Mhuire scores came from place ball, including a late penalty. The win was based on a dominant midfield display by Niall Harley and Colm Kelly which provided a great attacking platform, Harley getting among the scores himself with a goal. It was also a game where the half back line of Conor Kennedy, Calum ‘Cookie’ O’Halloran and Ellis McGuinness shone, Cookie O’Halloran capping his outing with two well-taken goals. Up front Shane McGrath was in sparkling form as was Philip Patton, both weighing in with goals. The full back line with Matthew Maguire at the centre of things dealt well with any ball that came in about them. The return leg is down for Father Tierney Park next Monday at 7.30pm. However, moves are afoot to reschedule the game for the following Wednesday, there will be an addendum if there is any definitive update on the fixture.

The under 14s will be in championship action this Wednesday, 27th June in Father Tierney Park when they take on Four Masters. This team has bags of potential and it is important we have a big crowd up at the park to get behind them for this game. Throw in is at 7.30pm.

This Thursday, 28th June, sees the under 10s travelling to Pettigo for a blitz between Pettigo, Saint Naul’s and Aodh Ruadh. Once again we will be looking for parents to assist with transport to this game. All players and parents able to help with transport are asked to assemble at Father Tierney Park from where we will departing at 5.30pm sharp. Games will be getting under way at 6.30pm in Pettigo.

The under 8s travelled to Mountcharles for a blitz hosted by Saint Naul’s last Saturday. The weather wasn’t great, but the lads all gave a great account of themselves on the day showing some great skills in their games against Saint Naul’s and Naomh Ultan. Well done to all the players who took part: Aaron Cullen, Ben Daly, Pauric Daly, Ryan Daly, Eoin Doogan, Michael Doogan, James Gallagher, Niamh Hughes, Eoghan Kelly, Killian Meehan, James McGinley, Shane McGloin, Cian McKenna, James Monaghan, David Roper, Drew Ryan, Aengus Sweeny and Tommy Winters. We have a picture of the team, after they got changed out of their wet jerseys, up on aodhruadh.org. Many thanks once again to all the parents who ferried the players up to Mountcharles. Thanks also to Saint Naul’s who looked after us well on the day. This Friday, 29th June, Aodh Ruadh play host to Bundoran for the final action before the summer break. The games get under way at Father Tierney Park at 6.30pm, players to be up at the park for the usual time on Friday. All parents are asked to help with the catering on the day by providing at least a loaf of sandwiches. We will be presenting certificates to all the players on completing the season.  We are also looking into the logistics of taking the boys away to the All-Ireland quarter-finals on the August Bank Holiday weekend should Donegal make it that far and we will be listening to parents’ views on the matter this Friday.

~ HURLING ~

Congratulations to Jamie Brennan and Eddie Lynch who are two of only three Donegal players selected to join the 45 man panel taking part in the 2012 Phoenix Elite Academy Camp in UUJ at the beginning of July. The lads will go on to represent Ulster in Interprovincial matches against Connacht on Friday 20th July. Congratulations also to Colm Kelly who received similar recognition in the footballing sphere.

Best of luck to our minors who play Setanta in the county League final in MacCumhaill Park on Thursday night. The throw in is at 7pm and all support would be greatly appreciated for what is sure to be a tough battle.

Preparations are well underway for the Féile na nGael taking place in Dublin from 5th July to 7th July. Aodh Ruadh are based in Rush and will be hosted by Saint Mura's. We have received great support locally towards this trip. On Monday night, in one of his last functions as Mayor of Ballyshannon, Councilor John Meehan presented €500 to the under 14s towards their trip to Féile na nGael on behalf of Ballyshannon Town Council. The support of Ballyshannon Town Council is much appreciated by all associated with the under 14s. We have a picture of the presentation on the aodhruadh.org home page.

The under 14 hurlers and their parents also showed that their hard work is not just confined to the hurling field. On Tuesday last their Cash for Clothes collection finished. It was a great success and they raised €1,550 for their trip to Dublin for the national finals. We want to thank all the parents who helped with this fund-raiser and all the local community who supported it. We have pictures of the collection up on aodhruadh.org.

Aodh Ruadh's under 10s took part in an all-county blitz at Saint Eunan's in Letterkenny. Eight players and parents traveled down on Sunday. They played five games with the first game against Gaoth Dobhair B. This was a tough game as we started of slow and made hard work for ourselves however in the second part of the match we started to get our game together and ran out winners. Next up was Saint Eunan's B this turned out to be the hardest game of the day with only two points scored in the game both, thankfully, going to Aodh Ruadh. In our third game we met Letterkenny Gaels at this stage we were on a roll and with plenty of hand-passing, hard tackling and hard work we got over the line to win our third game. In our fourth game Setanta were our opposition and we managed to pull off another win. After winning four from four we met Saint Eunan's A team in our final game. At this stage we were growing in confidence and again ran out winners. All players had a great day and the parents enjoyed watching the games and skills on display. From there it was in for grub. Many thanks to Saint Eunan's for hosting the blitz, all the parents who traveled down with players and watched the games and helped out. Thanks also to Tara Keenaghan who took pictures on the day and well done to the players who took part in the blitz. You can check out Tara’s pictures on aodhruadh.org.

Our under 8s, 10s and 12s are taking part in a blitz in Owenbeg, Dungiven on Saturday details will be circulated during the week.

Training as normal on Sunday for all age groups at 12 noon.

~ LADIES ~

The under 12s traveled to Donegal Town last Wednesday evening, as Four Masters hosted their Go Games blitz. The girls faced Four Masters, Saint Naul's and Bundoran in three highly skilled, fast paced games. Bridín Maguire's quick thinking between the posts saved the Aodh Ruadh Ladies on more than one occasion. In the back line Rionach Sheerin was consistent throughout and made things very difficult for the opposition's attack. The return of Dearbhaile O'Moore was a great help to Roisín Maguire, Tara Duffy and Cáit Gillespie who all worked hard in all three games. The next outing for the girls will take place on Wednesday evening when Saint Naul's host their Go Games blitz. All players are asked to be at the park at 5pm.

Tomorrow evening, Tuesday, the under 14 girls will make the journey to Letterkenny to face Malin in the county semi-final. Throw in will be at 4.45pm at the Letterkenny Gaels grounds. We hope to see a big Ballyshannon crowd there to help cheer the girls on.

Thursday evening will see our youngest stars take to the field for the first time this year. After spending up to eight months working hard on their skills the under 10s and under 8s will host Four Masters for a number of mini-games. The games are due to commence at 6pm. There will training as usual this Wednesday at 6pm.

Aodh Ruadh would like to wish Maeve Liston, Roise Keon and the Donegal under 16 team the best of luck as they line out for the first time in championship this season. The girls will take on Monaghan in Aghabog on Tuesday, tomorrow, at 7.30pm.

The Senior Ladies will have an early start next Saturday morning as they head to Naomh Columba to take part in their mini sevens tournament. It is hoped that this will serve as good preparation for championship as the ladies will face Termon on Sunday 8th July in the first round.

Well done to Terence McShea who took charge of the Ulster ladies intermediate championship final between Cavan and Armagh this weekend and saw the Orchard record a deserved victory!

~ YES WE CAN ~

Our next collection of aluminium cans for recycling to raise much needed funds for Aodh Ruadh takes place on Saturday 7th July from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at Fr. Tierney Park, this campaign had been a great success so far and we thank all the community and businesses who have supported us with this campaign.

~ RACE FOR SAM ~

With just two games last weekend the match week six leader board sees little change with Johnny Gallagher's Falcarragh Shamrocks still on top and Greg Sweeney's Milky Bar Kids nailed to the bottom. That’s all set to change with the Ulster semi-final and qualifiers this weekend and we can expect some major positional shifts. View the week six leader board on aodhruadh.org or in The Bridgend Bar every Tuesday.

~ TEAM PORTRAITS ~

Aodh Ruadh are hosting a family fun day on Sunday July 29th. As part of the day we are hosting an exhibition of photography in Aras Aoidh Ruaidh. As part of the exhibition we aim to have a team picture of every team in the club. We will be out taking pictures of teams over the next few weeks. If any team is available to have their portrait done, please notify Brian Drummond on brianodroma@gmail.com to arrange the details.
