Residents of Doorly Park in Sligo are calling for the Gatehouse building to be refurbished and used a resource centre for the community.
The building is located at the entrance to Doorly Park and is currently boarded up and in need of repair work.
Ind Socialist Cllr Declan Bree says the building should have been included in the Borough Councils list of protected structures but for some reason it was overlooked.
He says residents in the area have approached him to inquire if the building could be used as by the residents as there is no meeting place or community centre in the Doorly Park or Martin Savage Terrace area.
Cllr Bree is proposing the Borough Council apply for grant aid from the Department of the Environment for the project.
