Sunday 12th August Club Fundraiser sponsored by Wassies Chipper and Inland Inflatables Ireland.
There was a big field entered in the annual club fundraiser last Sunday, with teams of three taking part in a scramble. The course really is in superb condition at the moment, and the many visitors who played on the day are sure to have enjoyed the days golf. Leading the field home was a team which included John Brennan, Alan Martin and Jim McLoughlin. Although John is from Tubbercurry Golf Club, he is no stranger to Castle Dargan, having enjoyed a good run in the Darren Clarke Cup earlier this year. So that experience, along with the local knowledge of Castle Dargan men Alan and Jim, lead to a brilliant score of 57.6. In second place with another great score of 58.15 was another man from Tubbercurry Golf Club, Maynard O Boyle, along with Ballymote Golf Clubs Brendan Connolly and Castle Dargans Michael Flynn. It was a valiant effort to take top spot from this team, who birdied the 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th on their way home, but they were just pipped on this occasion. And in third place were the Kearins brothers of Niall, Andrew and Philip with a score of 59.3. Best ladies team on the day included Castle Dargan Lady Captain, Mary McGourty, along with Ann Carton and Kathleen Coughlan. Merv Keegan won the longest drive category, and John Brennan got nearest the pin with a great effort at the 11th.
Congratulations also to Club Captain Declan Feeney, who has recently secured a lucrative sponsorship deal with Massey Ferguson.
