Deputy Doherty defends SF decision to walk out of the Dáil

Sinn Fein’s Finance Spokesperson Pearse Doherty is defending his party’s decision to walk out of the Dáil in protest at the payment of unguaranteed bondholders at the former Anglo Irish Bank.

 

Pearse Doherty was joined by his party colleagues along with the United Left Alliance TDs.

 

Enda Kenny says he'd love to say it wasn't necessary to repay the debts, but the Government was unable to convince the E-C-B, who he says were "trenchant".

 

Almost three quarters of a billion euro has now just been repaid to the unguaranteed bondholders.

 

The Taoiseach refused a last minute request from Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams to stop the payment and name who the bondholders are:

 

 

Speaking to Ocean Fm news Pearse Doherty outlined the objective e of the walkout saying it was a symbolic gesture.
