Increase in suicide causes concern

Not enough is being done to tackle the issue of suicide across the north west region.

That's according to mental health professional Mary McTeirnan who is based in Co Leitrim.

CSO figures released this week show five hundred and twenty five people died by suicide last year - that's an increase of seven percent from 2010, when 490 suicides were recorded.

The vast majority - 84 percent - of those who took their own lives were men.
