Increase in the number of people seeking unemployment benefits

The number of people seeking unemployment benefits across the North West region last month increased at nearly every social welfare centre in the region.

 

Across county Donegal there are now over 21,560 people on the dole with over 1,500 in Ballyshannon alone representing a drop of 17 on the previous months figures.

 

 

1,284 people are now claiming benefits in Killybegs an increase of 37 in the past month with a further nine in Donegal Town leaving the number of unemployed people at 1,432.

 

In County Sligo, 60 more people signed on in January in comparison to December with 5,299 people now claiming welfare benefits.

 

Over 4,400 people are claiming assistance in Sligo Town with 864 in Tubbercurry.

 

In County Leitrim- an addition 12 people signed on last month in Manorhamilton last month in comparison to December bringing the total number to 852.
