North West Fine Gael MEP Jim Higgins is insisting that Kevin Cardiff is the best Irish candidate for the position on the European Court of Auditors.
It follows the news that Kevin Cardiff's appointment to the European Court of Auditors has been ratified.
Members of the European Parliament voted in favour of the Irish Government's nominee by 521 votes to 128.
34 MEPs abstained from the vote in Strasbourg this morning.
He says Mr Cardiff has adequately replied to a series of questions put to him by Jean Pierre Audy - the shadow rapporteur for the European People's Party which is the biggest party in the European Parliament.
