Minister refuses to categorically rule out ninth centre of excellence

The Minister for Social Protection has refused to categorically rule out that a ninth centre of excellence will not be developed in the North West region.

 

Joan Burton is visiting Sligo today where she will outline details of the expansion of the Disability Activation Project.

 

Members of the Save Our Cancer Services Campaign group in the North West are calling on the Minister for Social Protection to clarify the Labour Parties position on the return of breast cancers services to Sligo General Hospital.

 

Senior members of the party vowed to develop a ninth centre of excellence in the North West prior to the last General Election.

 

Catriona McGoldrick says many people in region voted for the Labour party on the basis of that commitment.

 

Ms McGoldrick is accusing the Labour party of misleading the electorate

 

However, speaking on the North West today programme the Minister says that she hopes this government will be in office for the next four to five years where cancer services will continue to be improved
