The counties of Sligo and Leitrim along with some population from south Donegal and from west Cavan will join to form a new constituency with the remainder of Donegal now forming one constituency

That is the recommendation of the Constituency Commission which published it report this morning.

It has proposed sweeping changes to Dáil boundaries and a reduction in the number of TDs from 166 to 158.

It advises that Sligo and Leitrim, along with some of south Donegal including Ballintra, Cavengarden, Carrickboy, Ballyshannon rural and urban along with Bundoran rural and west Cavan, should make up a four-seat constituency called Sligo Leitrim.

The rest of Donegal would become a single five-seat constituency under the proposals.

Fine Gael Leitrim Councillor Enda McGloin has been looking at the new constituency map.

Sligo North Leitrim Fine Gael Senator Michael Comiskey is welcoming the news that Leitrim has been reunited for electoral proposes.

Speaking on the North West Today programme he says it will help Leitrim's bid to have a TD in the Dail.
