Donegal County Council and the Marine Institute of Ireland will continue to monitor the situation at two beaches in Donegal after a large amount of dead fish and marine life was washed up on the shores of Rossnowlagh and Murvagh beaches.
The Local Authority has issued a warning to members of the public advising them not to swim at the two beaches when the red flags have been raised.
The algae is not toxic to humans but it is resulting in dead marine life at the two Donegal beaches. People are also being advised that these fish or shell fish should not be consumed
Joe Silke from the Marine Institute says it is impossible to know how long this will last.
