NW land prices record mixed results

County Leitrim recorded the least amount of agricultural land offered for sale last year, that's according to the Irish Farmers Journal's annual land price magazine published today.

 

Land prices in Donegal and Sligo have dropped even further while the price of agricultural land in Leitrim remains steady.

 

Farmers remain the main players in the agricultural land market with many looking to expand and/or consolidate their farm enterprise.

 

The average price of agricultural land in Donegal last year stood at €8,864 per acre representing a 5.5% drop compared to 2011.

 

Land prices fell by 3.5% in Sligo during 2012 while, 10 farms comprising of 468 acres were offered for sale last year in comparison to 17 farms comprising in 2011.

 

But, in Leitrim the average price of agricultural land was over €4,500 per acre , representing a very similar price to 2011.

 

Joanne Fox, the Property Editor with the magazine says it is a rare occurrence for farm lands from the North West to go on the market.
