Sligo Borough Council is being called upon to erect a plaque to honour the memory of the late Cllr. Tommy Higgins.
Cllr. Higgins was a memeber of Sligo Borough and County Council for over thirty years and worked as Secretary of the I.T.G.W.U.
He was 89 years old when he passed away at Sligo General Hospital last April.
Labour Cllr. Jim McGarry put forward the motion at the latest meeting of Sligo Borough Council in an effort to recognise, what he described as, "the many years of service the late Cllr. Higgins completed for the people of Sligo".
A sub-committee will now look at how best to honour Cllr. Higgins memory in erecting a permanent structure.
Cllr. McGarry says it is very important that his legacy is never forgotten.
