Airtricity League Premier Division
Sligo Rovers 4
(Quigley 10, Conneely 42, Boco 60, Ndo 80)
Drogheda United 1
(Hynes 76)
Sligo Rovers boasted four different goalscorers as they pulled Drogheda United apart at the Showgrounds on Saturday.
Mark Quigley had opened the scoring as early as the tenth minute, and Seamus Conneely doubled that advantage before the break.
And further strikes from Romuald Boco and Joseph Ndo ensured Substitute Peter Hynes’s close range header on 76 minutes was merely a consolation goal for the visitors.
Quigley’s fourth goal in three league games gave Rovers the perfect start, and Conneely claimed his first goal for the club shortly before the break, after Gabriel Sava spilled Boco’s shot.
Boco himself nodded home number three on the hour-mark, and Ndo wrapped it up on 80 minutes by firing home from close range.
Hynes pulled one back in between after some good work by Gavin Brennan, but it couldn’t stop Rovers from going four points clear at the top again.
The sides meet again in the EA Sports Cup semi-final on Monday in Drogheda.
