Sligo Carers welcome new strategy

Sligo Carers Association are welcoming the publication of the country's first National Carers Strategy by Minister For Disability, Equality, Mental Health and Older People, Kathleen Lynch.

The Strategy plan includes commitments from all Government Departments to meet the demands and needs of Ireland's 187,000 carers of all ages.

Census figures indicate that there are approximately 1,700 carers in Co. Sligo while there are 1,205 in Co. Leitrim.

Rosaleen Doonan of Sligo Carers Association says the strategy is an important first step in the provision of services for carers.
