A Sligo man has been convicted of repeatedly raping his teenage daughter, who claims he fathered her child.

It took the jury just over an hour of deliberations to convict the 48-year-old on eight counts of sexual assault and seven counts of rape at the family home between September 2005 and September 2007.

The court heard the abuse began shortly before his daughter's 13th birthday.

DNA tests showed that the accused is 12-thousand times more likely to have fathered his daughter s child than anyone else unrelated to the accused.

He has a previous rape conviction and will be sentenced on March 26th.
