Irish Rail is warning people to be aware of the dangers of both manual and automatic level crossings.
There was one category one incident at a level crossing in Collooney in Sligo in 2015 along with four other near misses and a barrier collision.
Category one incidents are where the driver of the train has to apply the brake to prevent a collission.
Figures released by the RSA show that there were 89 incidents at level crossings across the country in 2015 with a large number at user operated crossings.
Barry Kenny from Iarnroid Eireann told Ocean FM of the dangers for drivers at level crossings.
