Voting starts tonight in Leitrim for new IFA Connacht Chair

Voting is starting tonight in Leitrim for the position of a new Connacht Regional Chairperson.

A Sligo farmer is one of the two candidates – former county Chair Eddie Davitt will be hoping for a good turnout in Drumshanbo tonight

He has told Ocean FM News in recent weeks that there needs to be a good turnout in the smaller counties for him to have a good chance.

If he was to be successful this week, he would be the first Sligoman in the history of the IFA to hold the position.

The other candidate is Padraic Joyce from Mayo and both men will take place in a head to head debate in Berry’s Lounge in Drumshanbo tonight at 9pm.

Voting will take place tomorrow night in Roscommon, in Galway on Wednesday night and the Sligo and Mayo votes will take place simultaneously on Thursday night before counting gets underway on Friday afternoon at the Abbey Hotel in Roscommon town.

Only the four delegates from each branch of the IFA have a vote and James Gallagher, County Chair of the IFA in Leitrim is urging those Leitrim delegates to come out and vote tonight:
