Five north west RNLI volunteers honoured at award ceremony



Five RNLI volunteers from the north west have been honoured at the charity’s annual presentation of awards.

The event recognises volunteers dedication and commitment to volunteering over long periods of time in a bid to raise funds and awareness and to help save lives at sea.

Two members of the Sligo RNLI and three from Donegal were honoured at the ceremony in Belfast at the weekend.

Among the local awardees was Patrick Carter and Martin Reilly from Sligo Bay RNLI fundraising branch, both of whom were awarded the gold badge.

Sean Boyle and James Shovlin from the Rosses branch in Donegal also received the gold badge while Lough Swilly RNLI mechanic Gregory McDaid was awarded a 20 year long service badge.

The award ceremony took place in Belfast on Friday night and recognised the dedication and commitment to volunteering with the RNLI.

Aisling Gillen is the PRO of Sligo Bay RNLI and she told Ocean FM the local branch are very proud.
